An I-Pace that will not charge or shows an electrical warning can leave you expecting a large battery bill. Before assuming you need to pay for a replacement, find out what has actually failed and whether Jaguar can address it under a warranty or recall.
We buy faulty and non-running I-Pace models, but a sale should be an informed choice. A confirmed repair route could change the decision considerably.
Start with the exact warning and the car's instructions
Record the dashboard message while safely parked, along with any charging messages already displayed. Note when the issue began and whether you have a diagnostic report. A description such as “battery fault” can leave a lot unexplained; ask the repairer to identify the affected system rather than infer it from the symptom.
Follow the Jaguar handbook for your vehicle and any instructions Jaguar has issued for that car. Do not keep attempting to charge or drive it against those instructions, or try to open, disconnect or repair high-voltage components yourself.
If the car needs moving, tell the recovery operator that it is an electric I-Pace and explain the fault and any restrictions. Arrange the appropriate recovery method rather than assuming ordinary towing is suitable.
Check the battery warranty before approving a bill
Jaguar's UK electric-car information states that the I-Pace battery warranty runs for up to eight years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.
That headline is a starting point, not confirmation that a particular repair is covered. Give a Jaguar authorised repairer the VIN, mileage and diagnostic information, and ask them to confirm the applicable warranty terms and the position for the actual fault. A charging complaint should not automatically be treated as a covered traction-battery claim.
Ask for the answer in writing before approving chargeable work. Useful questions include whether diagnosis itself is chargeable, what approval is needed, which costs you would bear and when a repair could realistically be completed.
Check recalls separately
Warranty and recall checks answer different questions. Do both, even if the car is outside the advertised battery-warranty period.
Use the official UK vehicle recall service and ask Jaguar to confirm any outstanding action against your VIN. GOV.UK explains that safety-recall repairs or parts are usually provided without charge. If the manufacturer has identified a serious safety defect, follow its instructions and do not drive the vehicle.
News about another owner's I-Pace, particularly one in another country, does not establish the remedy for yours. Do not assume a charging limit, software action, replacement or buyback mentioned online applies to your car. Ask Jaguar to confirm any restrictions on charging, use or storage, and the next step for your vehicle.
Get a clear repair position
Before comparing sale offers with repair, collect three things: the confirmed diagnosis, Jaguar's response on coverage or recall action, and the likely timetable.
If you are paying for work, ask for an itemised quote with VAT, the repair warranty and any further investigation excluded from the total. If the car is already at a workshop, ask about storage charges and release arrangements before booking collection. Keep copies of completed recall or warranty work as well as outstanding recommendations, so the next discussion starts from the current position.
A repair with confirmed coverage may be worth pursuing. If the outcome is uncertain or you want to change cars, a valuation gives you another option. Allow for your own transport needs and the wait involved without treating an estimated repair date as guaranteed.
Selling an I-Pace with a fault disclosed
We buy broken and non-running Jaguar I-Pace models, including charging and high-voltage battery faults. Send the reg, mileage, postcode, warning details and any report or correspondence explaining outstanding work or restrictions.
Tell us whether it can move, where it is parked and what the repairer has advised. If no diagnosis exists, say that; you do not need to buy a battery report just to ask for a valuation.
Get your free, no-obligation offer. If you accept, we arrange free mainland UK collection with the vehicle's condition and handling requirements agreed beforehand, and secure bank-transfer payment on collection day.
